Eenzaamheid onder alleenstaande jongeren tijdens coronacrisis

Het UMCG en de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen hebben de Corona Barometer gelanceerd. Op www.coronabarometer.nl geven ze Nederland inzicht in de eerste uitkomsten van het Lifelines Corona-onderzoek. Binnen het grootschalige onderzoek ontvangen 135.000 mensen wekelijks een corona-vragenlijst. Er zijn tot nu toe al ruim 160.000 vragenlijsten ingevuld. Hieruit blijkt onder andere dat 1 op 4 respondenten tot 30 jaar die alleen wonen, zich in de huidige corona-crisis vaak eenzaam voelt. Daarnaast maken m eer respondenten zich zorgen dat een naaste ziek wordt dan dat zij zelf ziek worden. Lees het hele artikel .

Social distancing 19e eeuw

We hebben veel aandacht voor ontdekkingen uit het verleden die ons door de coronacrisis heen helpen. Denk bijvoorbeeld aan het belang van goede hygiëne en kennis over virussen.

Maar is het wel goed om ons blind te staren op deze successen? Om lessen uit het verleden te trekken kunnen we beter kijken naar de mislukkingen, betoogt Rina Knoeff, universitair hoofddocent aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen en het Aletta Jacobs Instituut voor Public Health. In de 19e eeuw werden namelijk al mislukte experimenten met social distancing gedaan, en daar kunnen we van leren. NWO Projects granted: Corona: Fast-track data

The battle against COVID-19 is in full swing and next to all healthcare professionals who are doing a tremendous job to protect and serve, researchers from the UMCG and RUG are taking part in this fight as well. 1,5-meter-samenleving als nieuwe normaal? 'Blijf updaten en wees duidelijk'

Premier Rutte had gisteren bij de persconferentie over de bestrijding van het coronavirus een duidelijke boodschap: "We zullen met elkaar moeten zoeken naar het nieuwe normaal, in de 1,5-meter-samenleving." Hij doelde daarmee op het feit dat de maatregelen om het coronavirus in te dammen nog wel een tijdje zullen gelden. Maar hoe blijft het draagvlak voor de regels met dat perspectief behouden?

Hoe langer dat duurt, hoe lastiger het wordt voor mensen zich aan de regels te houden, zegt sociaal psycholoog Tom Postmes, verbonden aan de Rijksuniversiteit Groningen. Lees het hele aritkel.

People now see the importance of family in healthcare even more

ASPHER statement on the novel coronavirus disease (COVID-19) outbreak emergency

ASPHER - 31 March 2020
ASPHER, as Europe’s representative organisation for Schools of Public Health, calls on all countries to strengthen the role and resources available to the WHO and to align with WHO policies. ASPHER supports sustaining and strengthening the ECDC mandate for international action. ASPHER calls on Europe’s governing bodies, the European Commission and individual countries: to recognize the specific expertise of public health professionals involving them in decision-making to effectively coordinate European and in-country action; to invest adequate funding and resources in health systems, essential public health operations, planning and preparedness; and to include health in all policies. Major research in the Northern Netherlands into risk factors for coronavirus

This week, large-scale research into the risk factors for the coronavirus COVID-19 is being started in the Northern Netherlands. To this end, around 135,000 Northern residents will receive a weekly questionnaire in the coming period. Their answers will be linked to data from the Lifelines biobank to identify both hereditary and environmental factors that partially determine whether someone may fall seriously ill due to the coronavirus or simply develop mild symptoms. Northern provinces abandon national policy and test health care workers en masse

While after the South the West of the Netherlands seems to lose its grip on the Coronavirus, the call for more testing is getting louder. Insufficient capacity, is the answer. Alex Friedrich, doctor-microbiologist at the UMCG in Groningen, does not agree.
