Maddison Project Database 2020

Date:04 November 2020

A new version of the Maddison Project Database has been released this week. This new version includes all available recent work by economic historians on long term economic growth and extends the income series for all countries until 2018. The 2020 update has to some extent gone back to the original Maddison approach of using the 1990 benchmark for the overall architecture of the dataset covering the historical period. However, we also integrate the 2011 ICP benchmark as that reflects best the contemporary relative levels of GDP per capita in the World Economy. Growth after 2011 is in the current update again exclusively based on the growth rates of GDP according to national accounts. The new version of the database is introduced and discussed in an extensive documentation paper
