Ahead of Britain's referendum on EU membership, Bart Los has co-authored a study with Philip McCann, John Springford, and Mark Thissen. 

The study finds that support for leaving the EU is stronger in regions that are more integrated with the EU. Even more predictive of a region's 'Leave' intentions is lack of support for immigration.
