Course 1: Philosophical Thinking
ECTS 7.5 / Semester 1a
Philosophers deal with a wide variety of problems, using a broad range of methods. What is constant, however, is critical reflection and sophisticated argumentation. In this course you will discuss and practice the basic skills of philosophical thinking. For example, you will learn to question, analyse and evaluate philosophical arguments. What makes a good argument? How can you identify flaws in arguments? And how do you write philosophy yourself? From the outset, you will be invited to apply your new skills to major philosophical problems and disagreements, as you find them in a selection of classical philosophical texts. This allows you to immerse yourself in the philosophical tradition.
