Course 3: Practical Philosophy
ECTS 7.5 / Semester 1b
Practical philosophy asks questions about which moral obligations we have in our personal lives and how these obligations extend to social and political institutions. When should we call an action ‘good’? What makes a human life valuable? And what should our government do to make our lives valuable? You will thus get acquainted with the practical application of philosophical questions. The course focuses on contemporary issues, but also discusses major theories such as liberalism, libertarianism and feminism. By taking this course, you will be informed of the major philosophical problems that are currently relevant in moral and political philosophy, and learn to form your own opinion on these problems.
