Pre-Master's Entry Requirements

Faculty of Economics and Business

The entry requirements for FEB Pre-Master's programmes depend on the programme of application, the previous diploma you have obtained, and the level of mathematics you have acquired. Below are details about the Pre-Master’s programmes offered, the mathematics level required and the related tests available, and the English proficiency certificates required (if needed).

Diploma entry requirements

Below is an overview of the Pre-Master's programmes based on the previous education background.

Mathematics entry requirements

For a 30/45 EC Pre-Master’s programme or the 60 EC Pre-Master's Accountancy and Controlling programme, you may need to prove having a sufficient level of mathematics before starting the Master’s programme.

Exemption from providing a mathematics test holds if the applicant applies for:

  • Pre-Master's Accountancy and Controlling for HBO - Accountancy, or for Pre-Master's Accountancy and Controlling for HBO - Business Economics and HBO - Finance & Control;

  • Pre-Master's International Financial Management, Pre-Master's Finance, or Pre-Master's Supply Chain Management & Technology and Operations Management (NB: an advanced mathematics course is included in the programme, so adequate mathematics background is desirable);

  • Pre-Master's Econometrics, Operations Research and Actuarial Studies (EORAS) programme. Applicants need to have an advanced mathematics level which will be assessed by the Admissions Board;

  • Pre-Master's Economics or the Pre-Master's Economics for HBO. Applicants need a solid background in mathematics (level VWO B or A) to meet the entry requirements.

What level of mathematics is required?

The mathematics level required depends on the previous diploma obtained. Check the table below to find out what level is needed.

Dutch diploma students

For a diploma from a University of Applied Sciences (HBO) or Research University (WO) in the Netherlands, you may need to prove having passed Mathematics A or B at VWO level before the start of the Master's programme.

International diploma students

For an international diploma, you may need to prove having passed mathematics as a standard/methods level subject or a higher level (advanced) subject before the start of the Master's programme. Check here for the VWO equivalent qualifications for the requirements. Applicants are often required to hand in course descriptions of the mathematics courses taken. The Admissions Board assess the level of mathematics of applicants individually.

What mathematics tests are accepted?

Various mathematics exams are accepted. For example, there is the FEB Mathematics Entrance exam offered by the faculty, the Online Mathematics Placement Test (OMPT-A), the James Boswell, and CCVX. This website offers information about these exams, the dates, and prices. Applicants are advised to carefully read the information for each exam and see which one is applicable.

What is the deadline and where can I send the certificate?

It is highly recommended to submit the related documents upon starting the Pre-Master’s programme, but no later than 31 August (September start of Master’s) or 31 January (February start of Master’s).

All students who do not meet the mathematics requirements and have taken a mathematics test need to fill out the following form.

  • For applicants who obtained a Dutch VWO diploma, please fill out this form. Current Pre-Master's students at the Faculty of Economics and Business do not need to send a copy of the VWO diploma but students need to send an email to transfer.math.feb rug.nl and mention having a VWO including maths.

  • For international diploma, applicants are advised to check whether the level of mathematics required is met, as well as the necessary documents needed to be handed in. If the requirements are fulfilled, applicants should fill out this form.

  • For those who have completed an advanced mathematics course at another university,  please fill out this form.
