Expedition NEXT - 2022
On May 6, the entire city center of Franeker will be transformed into a large science festival for children and their families: Expedition Next. Expedition Next is part of the National Science Agenda. Many University of Groningen researchers will be present at the festival to discuss their research and science in general with the children. The University Museum, Science LinX and the Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health, among others, will be present with some interesting exhibitions and activities. You are also welcome to come and enjoy the fun.
During the free science festival Expeditie NEXT, children between 6 and 12 years old and their carers are enthused and stimulated to learn more about science in the broadest sense of the word. Of course, their older and/or younger relatives or friends are also welcome. Through various activities such as experiments, live research, exhibits and walking routes, the children come into contact with all kinds of scientists about the most diverse themes of our time. Just think of the climate crisis, pandemics, social inequality or the digital world.
franeker
The Frisian Elfstedenstad Franeker still breathes science: beautiful locations with an academic past such as the Martinikerk, the planetarium of Eise Eisinga and the Martena Museum where the first female student, Anna Maria Schuurman, lived. The ancestors of the current Oranges also studied here. Nowadays, promotions are organized again and public lectures are given. The oldest student pub in the Netherlands is also located here: De Bogt Fen Guné. Together with the Academy of Franeker, the municipality of Waadhoeke and the scientific field, we are bringing the former university back to life for a day.
