ATN - Public Engagement in Public Health: How to kickstart your engagement skills

When:We 18-12-2024 15:15 - 17:45
Where:House of Connections

The Aletta Talents Network invites you to join us on the 18th of December at the House of Connections for a workshop and network opportunity on the topic of Public Engagement!

During the vital period of an early career researcher’s trajectory, opportunities provided for conducting public engagement may be limited, due to a lack of opportunities or skillset.

As Recognition & Reward becomes more and more integrated into a researcher’s career trajectory, it is important to ensure that all researchers have the tools to engage with public engagement during their early years. Therefore, this workshop aims to empower early career researchers to conduct public engagement.

A short talk will be given by Taichi Ochi on his experiences with public engagement. Following the talk, interactive round table discussions will engage participants to share their experiences within groups. The findings of this workshop will be shared to be accessible to all interested parties.

Taichi Ochi holds two functions within the University of Groningen. As a researcher, he investigates the relationship between genetic biomarkers and social determinants of health to improve drug utilization and patient outcomes. Within the Open Science Program, he is the Pillar Lead for Community, working to strengthen the networks of Open Science practitioners within Groningen and beyond.

Outside of academic work, he is the Director of Pint of Science Netherlands, a non-profit organization focused on bridging the gap between researchers and the general public. For the last seven years, he has coordinated over 250 science communication events across the Netherlands. In recent years, his focus has shifted towards addressing the gaps faced by international academic staff in becoming more engaged with science communication and how to build an inclusive public engagement community.
