European Researchers’ Night – festive science festival at Forum Groningen

On Friday 29 September, European Researchers’ Night will be held across Europe to celebrate and question science.

Everyone who is curious is welcome at the European Researchers’ Night, a festive and versatile science festival held in Forum Groningen. With contributions by new Rector Magnificus Jacquelien Scherpen, science journalist Jim Jansen, the Bab Ad-Daar dancers, science rappers Daisy Veenstra (Daisz) and Jon Chase, Bert Otten, Jan-Willem Romeijn, Marie-José van Tol, Lise Jans, and many others.

Programme

Between 7.30 p.m. and midnight, Forum Groningen will be transformed into a vibrant science festival filled with music, dance, shows, interactive exhibitions, and a drinks reception.

Jacquelien Scherpen, the new Rector of the University of Groningen, will open the festival, together with science rappers Daisy Veenstra – a.k.a. Daisz – and Jon Chase. New Scientist’s Jim Jansen will host three interactive science shows including music, Bab Ad-Daar is going to dance and several researchers will be competing against each other in the silent disco science battle.

Make your own deepfake video or play AI Bingo at the AI Lab, taste the food of the future, have a conversation with a robot, come to know everything about the first electric car, or create a stop-motion film based on your dreams.

The festival will be bilingual – Dutch and English – and costs €7.50 (this includes two drinks).

The UG’s interdisciplinary Schools

The European Researchers’ Night is an initiative of the European Commission and is held throughout Europe.

The Groningen Researchers’ Night is organized by the four interdisciplinary Schools of the University of Groningen:

• Aletta Jacobs School of Public Health

• Wubbo Ockels School of Energy and Climate

• Jantina Tammes School of Digital Society, Technology and AI

• Rudolf Agricola School for Sustainable Development.

Through their inclusive and interdisciplinary lens, these Schools contribute to the solutions for societal challenges, such as climate change, digitization, health, and a fair society.
