The question of where one was born has long since become a determinant of individual life conditions. In some regions of the world, more people are leaving to seek their fortune elsewhere. What does this do to their place of origin - and what are the consequences for the rich destination countries in the global North? Thomas Faist sheds light on the subject - and dispels some of the myths about global migration in the 21st century.
