 We are thrilled to congratulate the recipients of the Rudolf Agricola PhD Grants, second round, for 2024: William Andrés Cardona, Nafiseh Orouji, Harm Heye Coordes, and Huiyuan Pang!

Their PhD projects are both diverse and impactful, covering topics such as women's sexual and reproductive health and rights in audio-visual media, agroforestry in the lowlands of Colombia, person-place relationships of older adults during rural-to-urban resettlement in China, and immersive experiences in fashion. More details about their projects are provided below.

The PhD award ceremony took place online this time, as most of the winners are currently abroad working on their research. 

With the conclusion of the second round of the PhD grant ceremony, we are excited to announce that the third round of PhD grants will open soon and remain open until the end of September. For more information, please visit our website. 

Selected PhD Grant Winners for 2024, Second Round: 

Harm Heye Coordes: Investigating the conscious experience of sustainability in the fashion industry, focusing not only on production and materials but also on the use of digital technology to enhance structural experiences. 

Huiyuan Pang: Examining the resettlement of older adults from rural to urban settings in China, their social encounters in new communities, and their perceptions and practices related to death. 

Nafiseh Orouji: Exploring how feature films can be used to raise awareness, educate, and influence attitudes and behaviors related to promoting women's sexual and reproductive health and rights (SRHR). Nafiseh will use the grant to travel to Groningen for essential courses for her research. 

William Andrés Cardon: Addressing the agricultural socio economics challenges in the south of Meta, Colombia, particularly focusing on sustainable development within the coffee sector. The grant will fund soil samplings of 40 coffee farms to characterize ecosystem services associated with coffee crops.
