Two new BICS members
We welcome Ole Richter and Willian Soares Girao as new PhD students of the BICS group.
Ole Richter joins the group to work on computing platforms emulating spiking neural network processes. His project aims to evaluate systems and circuits for neural network stabilization and homeostasis. To follow this research he will identifiy neural inspired architectures, computational primitives and compare design choices driven by algorithmic models and applicaitons.
Willian Soares Girao joined the BICS group as part of the H2020 Marie Skłodowska-Curie action Innovative Training Networks - Materials for Neuromorphic Circuits (MANIC). Wiith his background in Computer Science (B.Sc.) from the Federal University of Amazon (Amazonas), Brasil and his M.Sc. in Computer Science from Fluminense Federal University (Rio de Janeiro), Brasil, he has a deep background on the algorithmic side which he now wants to apply to spiking neural networks. His main interests focuses on the design of neuromorphic circuits for embedding the novel devices developed by the synthesis partners of this ITN. Key neural computational primitives are being targeted; their circuital implementation and integration with novel devices are characterized and used as building blocks for the construction of neural networks. In particular he is focusing on implementations in mixed-signal CMOS neuromorphic circuits that take advantage of novel nanodevices capabilities that go beyond current standard technology. To facilitate this collaboration he will conduct various visits to partner institutions of the Innovative Training Network.
