Jantina Tammes School pulls out all the stops at opening House of Connections

24 June 2023

During the opening week of the University of Groningen's newest location, the House of Connections at Grote Markt, the Jantina Tammes School of Digital Soeciety, Technology and AI kicked off with no less than three events on 22 June.

The House of Connections will be the place where university, city, region and all beyond work together on big social issues.

Data autonomy, let’s do it

In the morning, in collaboration with the Centre for Information Technology (CIT), the launch of the project 'Data Autonomy, let's do it!' took place. During this event, attendees from all kinds of stakeholder groups from within the University of Groningen (UG), as well as regional and national stakeholders from the business and governmental sector engaged in an active dialogue about the meaning and importance of data autonomy.

Research meets society

In the afternoon the Jantina Tammes School presented ‘Research meets Society’, with autonomous driving as a central theme. Through presentations and a panel discussion we tried to get answers to these three questions: Why would society want autonomous driving? Why discuss this in the Northern Netherlands? Why involve the Jantina Tammes School?

Also the UG winning team of the RDW Self Driving Challenge were honoured. The self driving kart from RDW was there to give the public an actual insight into the technology created by the students.

JTS Early Career Researcher Prize

The evening programme started off with a ‘Digitized Tasting Menu’, where guests could see and try different kinds of digital items. It included a summertime dinner, whith at each table a host who addressed a particular theme.

Highlight of the evening was the award ceremony of the JTS Early Career Researcher Prize, after the five candidates had given their pitches. This was celebrated with a toast and dessert buffet.
