Language and AI Colloquium IV: Experiments on the intersection of texts and structured data: combining language technology and semantic web for digital humanities research by Marieke van Erp

This initiative aims at bringing together all those interested or working on the intersections of natural language and Artificial Intelligence.

The Language and AI colloquia will take place from October 2024 to May 2025. Each colloquium will take place on Friday, it will start at 14:00 and will end at 15:00. For the interested people, it would be possible to arrange 1-on-1 meetings with the speakers.

Marieke van Erp

The speaker for the fourth Language and AI Colloquium is Marieke van Erp from KNAW Humanities Cluster with: 'Experiments on the intersection of texts and structured data: combining language technology and semantic web for digital humanities research'.

Since September 2017, Dr Marieke van Erp leads the Digital Humanities Research Lab at the KNAW Humanities Cluster where they are working on strengthening digital methods in humanities research at Huygens, IISH and Meertens Institute. In January 2023 she was awarded an ERC Consolidator grant for TRIFECTA, a five-year project devoted to improving language and semantic web technologies to create better knowledge graphs for humanities research.

Between October 2009 and September 2017, Dr Marieke van Erp was a researcher at Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, where she worked on various interdisciplinary projects such as NewsReader and CLARIAH (see her projects page).

During her Ph.D. project, she worked on the MITCH project at Tilburg University. Her project was concerned with improving data quality and advanced knowledge presentation through (sometimes automatically induced) ontologies.
