The EngD programme on autonomous systems strongly collaborates with the Innovation Cluster Drachten (ICD). The ICD comprises 23 high-tech companies in the north of the Netherlands that work together to innovate on the Big 5 of high-tech: metal 3D printing, remote sensing and big data, robotics, visual intelligence and renewable propulsion. The Cluster is committed to working together with the university of Groningen in defining projects for the EngD trainees, offering guest lectures and hosting the trainees in their own labs.
The Autonomous Systems EngD programme headquarters is planned to be within the SKILL building of the ICD cluster in the Philips campus in Drachten. The SKILL building will be a place for trainees to attend lectures, work on group assignments, meet with other company/EngD trainees and engineers, and have access to labs to develop practical experience. The SKILL building is specifically equipped with three labs (Computer Vision, Robotics and 3D printers), several lecture halls, and meeting rooms.
