How to apply

The Eng programme Autonomous Systems welcomes successfully finished Master graduates from programmes related to the ones listed under the admission requirements below. Contact us if you have questions about the eligibility of your Master programme.

An applicant must both meet all the admission requirements and successfully complete the selection procedure in order to be admitted to the EngD programme. The Board of Admissions will decide whether an applicant will be admitted to the EngD programme.

After a successful admission, the candidate will be registered in the Graduate School of the Faculty of Science and Engineering at the University of Groningen.

Admission requirements

The candidates have to fulfill the following requirements in order to get an admission to the EngD programme: 

  • Must hold a Master's degree of a relevant Masters programme listed below (or related):
    MSc Applied Mathematics
    MSc Applied Physics
    MSc Industrial Engineering & Management
    MSc Artificial Intelligence
    MSc Computing Science
    MSc Mechanical Engineering
    MSc Systems & Control
  • Must have good English proficiency as described for the EngD programme
  • Must have good grades, good recommendations, and a clear motivation to become a technical designer in the field of Autonomous Systems
Application documents

For your application, please provide the following documents:

  1. MSc diploma or proof of completion of the MSc programme
  2. Master transcripts / grades
  3. CV
  4. Cover letter where you explain your motivation, why you think that you are a good candidate for the EngD programme, and what makes you stand out
  5. At least one reference letter and/or contact (name and research institute) who we may approach for a reference

Visa

Non-EU applicants normally need a visa to enter the EU and a resident permit to study in The Netherlands. If this is your case, please check the information for prospective EngD trainees who require a visa and residence permit.
