Minor Climate Change and Inequality

This minor is under development.

Climate change creates many challenges on local, national, and global levels. These challenges are not just technical, scientific, or economic but also moral, social, legal, and political. This minor helps students explore key questions about inequality and injustice caused by climate change.

The minor takes an interdisciplinary approach. Students will learn about social, legal, political, and philosophical inequalities that are part of the systems used to tackle climate change. They will also study how climate change can make these inequalities worse and explore possible solutions. Examples in the courses will focus on the Pacific, Africa, and Europe. In the final course, students will work in teams to solve real-world problems related to climate change and inequality.

Along with technical solutions and infrastructure changes, tackling climate change means addressing the social, legal, and economic inequalities in our societies, which are made worse by climate change. These solutions also bring new ethical questions that must be carefully handled to avoid creating further inequality and injustice in new systems.

More information will follow soon.
