dr. B.J.A. (Barry) de Groot
After graduation, Barry de Groot joined the department of Special Needs Education and Youth Care at the University of Groningen as a research assistant to professor Kees van den Bos. In this period he was heavily involved in the supervision of undergraduate students and interns carrying out their Bachelor or Master work revolving around reading disabilities. This period was, however, also used to prepare a research proposal, which resulted in Barry’s installation as a Ph.D. candidate in August 2009. In the course of the Ph.D. project, a great host of students did participate, and have completed their undergraduate work within its boundaries. During the same period, Barry was also intensely involved as co-author of the Dutch Phonemic Analysis Test, and as the first author of its revised version, which is scheduled for publication momentarily. Since March 2015 he remains to work in the same department as Assistent Professor Special Needs/Learning Disorders, where he continues to investigate and explore new paths linking the applied neurosciences and methods such as eye tracking to the diagnostic assessment and treatment of learning disabilities.
