Students of Harens Lyceum visit Science Linx

30 August 2016

On 30 August, students from the Harens Lyceum school (formerly Zernike College) visited the University of Groningen Science faculty.

In six groups, a total of 115 students and several teachers from the Harens Lyceum secondary school participated in a very busy programme organized by Science LinX. The visitors were given a guided tour of the permanent exhibition in the Bernoulliborg, and climbed up to the observatory to look at the sun through a special telescope on the roof. They also created real Bio Art by painting with bacteria, under the supervision of the University of Groningen iGem-team . This same team gave them a lecture on their contribution to the 2016 iGEM competition, in which student teams engineer a bacterium for a specific (and usually very out of the ordinary) application. In this case, the team will make a bacterium that can be used for data encryption.

All this on their first day at school! For the Harens Lyceum, the visit to Science LinX has become an annual tradition .
