Dr. Hamed Seddighi on the plight of children during natural disasters and conflicts

What is the best method to compile information and knowledge about the plight of children during natural disasters and conflicts? Dr. Hamed Seddighi provides an answer to that question with his paper 'Child Abuse in Natural Disasters and Conflicts: A Systematic Review.'

Seddighi and his co-authors used a systematic review to collect evidence and synthesize in order to improve accessibility to knowledge on this topic. The articles has had a tremendous impact and it has been used by many international organisation such as WHO and UNICEF to inform their decisions during crisis.

The article delves deep into the different types of violence experienced based on the gender of children but also on the gender of the perpatrators. Moreover, the paper provided a very intriguing finding in regards to who the perpatrators of violence actually are during such events.

We invited dr. Hamed Seddighi, a postdoctoral researcher at the department of clinical psychology at the University of Groningen, with a decade of experience with working in international humanitarian organisation, to discuss the impact of his paper, the methods behind it and it's most surprising result

Dr. Hamed Seddighi is the leader of the Research Group 'Children and Disasters' at the Rudolf Agricola School for Sustainable Development.
