Kick-off Young Science and Engineering Network (YSEN)
On Thursday, October 10th, the kick-off of the newly established Young Science and Engineering Network (YSEN) took place at Brasserie Zernike. After a short introduction by one of the founding committee members, the official opening was conducted by the Dean of the FSE, Prof. Jasper Knoester. After the opening, two more speakers followed: Prof. Marcel Swart, chair of the Young Academy of Europe and Prof. Jacquelien Scherpen, chair of the BC1.
Prof. Marcel Swart talked about the perspectives on being an early career researcher in the European context. Prof. Jacquelien Scherpen shared tips and tricks for succeeding on the tenure track in Groningen. About 30 young researchers of the Faculty attended the kick-off.
For young researchers FSE
YSEN is initiated and coordinated by a group of young researchers from the Faculty of Science and Engineering (FSE) who are passionate about improving the scientific and professional environment for other young researchers at our Faculty. All junior faculty, i.e. tenure-track (or similar) staff within approximately 10 years of arrival in Groningen and/or start of appointment, are invited to join. The aim of YSEN is to facilitate information exchange, peer support and interdisciplinarity, by organising events and workshops, and by serving as a communication channel to the FSE organisation.
