Uniterms

Uniterms helps you to easily find the correct Dutch or English translation of all your university and educational terms. This terminology database comprises university terms that are used within the University of Groningen (UG) as well as more general educational terms.

Uniterms is continuously evolving. Our aim for this database is that it continues to grow and contributes to the consistent translation of educational terminology in Europe. If you have any feedback on how to improve our database even further or if you know of any missing terms, you can easily let us know through Uniterms!

Who developed Uniterms?

Uniterms has been developed over the years by the UG Translation Agency. We were able to start the database thanks to funding from the Language & Culture Policy project. The HOTNeV project has also been closely involved with the development of Uniterms. The HOTNeV project focuses on the consistency of terminology used in higher education in the Netherlands and Flanders. The UG Translation Agency would like to warmly thank everyone involved:

• Notebook — Dutch and Flemish educational terms in English Kees Broekhof, in collaboration with Teresa Morris and Luc Stoops (Utrecht, 1999)

• Tuning — Tuning Educational Structures in Europe. Universities’ contribution to the Bologna Process. Edited by Julia Gonzáles and Robert Wagenaar (Bilbao 2005)

• HOTNeV – Hoger Onderwijs Terminologie in Nederland en Vlaanderen (Higher Education Terminology in the Netherlands and Flanders)

We would like to dedicate the Uniterms database to our colleague Dr Julia Harvey, former coordinator of the UG Translation Agency. She was at the cradle of the database and an avid advocate of consistency in the translation of higher education terms. Julia passed away on 8 August 2019.
