Course formats
We offer our courses in a range of formats. Wondering which is the right one for you? Keep reading to find out!
Our regular group courses take place at set times and locations, and they have a set curriculum. We offer most group courses several times a year. You can find the start dates and information on how to enrol in our webshop.
Before enrolling, choose the intensity and format of course that suits you.
Intensity

Regular: Most of our regular group courses are of a regular intensity. This means that you will have one or two lessons per week, which are usually an hour and a half to two hours long. The total duration of the course varies from six to 12 weeks. For details of the study load for each course, see the relevant course page in the webshop.

Intensive: We offer intensive group courses in January, June, July, and August. These courses cover the same material as the regular courses but in a shorter period of time. You will typically have lessons four days a week, with one or two lessons a day. The course lasts two or three weeks. Civic integration: The Dutch courses we offer for civic integration have a different level of intensity to our regular courses. These courses allow students more time to learn Dutch. You will have three two or three-hour lessons a week. The course lasts 9 or 12 weeks in total.
Format

On site: Most of our regular group courses are taught on site. This means that you will have your lessons in one of the UG’s university buildings. To find out the location, check the course timetable in our webshop.

A workshop is a short training course consisting of one or two half-day sessions. They take place at set times and locations, and the material covered is fixed. We offer workshops several times a year. You can find the start dates and information on how to enrol in our webshop.
We currently offer the following workshops for native speakers of Dutch:
We offer a series of Dutch courses in which we combine self-study with online sessions and coaching. Each week, you will be given exercises to complete on your own and assignments to complete with a fellow participant. There will also be several interactive group sessions with a teacher and some of your fellow participants. The sessions are not scheduled on fixed days and times, but are organized in consultation with you so that you can attend regardless of your time zone. Participants from all over the world take part in these courses!

If you prefer learning a language completely independently, the Rosetta Stone self-study package might be a good option for you. An account is valid for one year after purchase. When learning a language via Rosetta Stone, you do not receive guidance or support from the Language Centre.
You can start using Rosetta Stone at any time. Simply register via the webshop.
We administer language tests and assessments for a variety of languages. You schedule a test or assessment in consultation with us. Find out more about our services and how to book a test here.
For our tailor-made training courses, the content, time, and location are determined in consultation with you. We offer several sample courses on our website which you can request straight away.
