We have launched the Writing Centre!

Are you struggling with writing academic texts? At the Writing Centre, University of Groningen students can receive free writing coaching. Our coaches will ask you questions and help you to look at your text or writing process from a different angle. The goal is for you to rediscover the joy of writing and to have a starting point for writing better academic texts. The Writing Centre is official part of the University of Groningen Language Centre.
▸For who? For all UG students.
▸Who are the coaches? Our writing coaches are UG students who have an affinity with academic writing and who have taken a coaching training course.
▸Where? Depending on your preference, the coaching can take place in the Harmonie Building or online.
▸What does it cost? The writing coaching sessions are free of charge.
▸How often? The maximum is five coaching sessions per writing assignment. You can only schedule one session at a time. If you are in need of a follow-up session, you can schedule it after the first one is finished.
▸In what language? You may submit texts in Dutch, English, Spanish or French, regardless of the language of the coaching session. All of our coaches are proficient in both Dutch and English. Some coaches are proficient in Spanish and French. With the latter two languages, pay attention to choosing the right coach when booking a session.
Meet our writing coaches
If you schedule an individual session at the Writing Centre, you will be helped by one of our coaches. They are UG students with different study backgrounds and, most importantly, they have affinity with academic writing and coaching. They are trained in coaching and are supervised by professionals from the UG Language Centre.

‘Hi, I'm Tess, 23, and I am one of the Writing Centre's new writing coaches. I am currently pursuing a Master’s degree in Literary Studies – Writing, Editing and Mediating. In 2023, I completed a BA in English Language and Culture. Over the years, I have gained a lot of experience with writing and have witnessed how valuable it is to have good writing skills, both within and outside your degree programme. So, I am thrilled about the Writing Centre and am very much looking forward to making fellow students better writers! Who knows, see you soon!’

‘Hi, I'm Luna! I am 23 years old and I study European Languages and Cultures. My degree programme probably signals that I love languages, so I am excited to start working as a writing coach. I am fluent in Dutch, English, and Spanish, so students can approach me with writing assignments in these languages. I am very curious about you and your text, so please drop by for a session!’

'Hey! My name is Sophie and I study European Languages and Cultures at the UG, with a specialization in French language and politics. I also completed a Bachelor's degree in American Studies, which gave rise to my specific interest in language and culture. Language is not only a means of communication, but also a way to understand and shape the world. As a writing coach, I look forward to helping others find their voice and write strong, clear content!'
