UG's MOOC in Class Central worldwide top 100

The University of Groningen's MOOC Introduction to Dutch ranks in the top 100 of most popular MOOCs of all time. No other Dutch university has made it to the top 100 composed by Class Central.

This is quite an achievement for the UG’s Language Centre and the development team Margriet Hidding, Birgit Lijmbach and Jeroen van Engen. The ranking is based on the total number of learners signed up in a MOOC, so it's remarkable, to say the least, that so many people have chosen to learn a language that is spoken by only 29 million people in the world.

MOOC Coordinator Tom Spits: 'You know that a course offers quality when you can run it for 5 years (!) and reach over 200,000 learners from all over the world who want to learn Dutch via Groningen. As it turns out, learning Dutch online is a popular activity!' The highly positive reviews of many learners confirm this quality. The development team is working on an update to make the MOOC future-proof.
