Collaboration UG Language Centre and SVIN for Swedish language courses

The University of Groningen Language Centre is collaborating with the Scandinavian translation and information service SVIN (Scandinavisch Vertaal- en Informatiebureau Nederland) and will now be offering Swedish language courses as well. With the combined expertise of both institutes, two fast-paced beginner's level courses Swedish will be on offer. The courses will be taught by teachers from the SVIN following the standard format of the Language Centre.
The SVIN has, among other Scandinavian languages, been teaching Swedish courses on multiple different levels for quite a while now. The Swedish courses that are starting in November at the Language Centre will be taught at a faster pace than regular SVIN courses. As such, these courses will appeal to a different target group and will complement the SVIN’s own range of courses. Ellen de Bot, board member of the SVIN, says, ‘the SVIN is looking forward to the collaboration with the Language Centre and the opportunity to introduce a new target audience to Swedish together. Both the SVIN and the Language Centre have been around for years, and we are glad that we can join forces at last!’
Jeroen van Engen, head of the Modern Foreign Languages department at the Language Centre, decided to pursue this collaboration because he saw an increase in the demand for Swedish language courses among students and staff at the UG. The increased demand among this target group has been sparked by partnerships between the UG and Swedish universities. ‘By offering fast-paced Swedish courses we hope to meet this need,’ says Jeroen.
Both courses start on 15 November; one for complete beginners and one for those with a basic knowledge of Swedish. The courses are open to everyone who likes to study at a fast pace, from both within and outside the UG. More information can be found on the website of the University of Groningen Language Centre.
