JTS Grant Writing Fund

Boost Your Research with the JTS Grant Writing Fund!

The Jantina Tammes School (JTS) has launched the JTS Grant Writing Fund, designed to support researchers in writing or editing proposals for interdisciplinary research grants.

This fund helps cover the cost of hiring a professional grant writer to strengthen your proposal, allowing you to focus on the science and collaboration behind the project.

Why the JTS Grant Writing Fund?

Grant proposals are key to securing research funding, but the writing process is demanding and time-consuming. By leveraging the skills of experienced grant writers, you increase your chances of success. These writers know how to craft clear, compelling proposals and position your research for maximum impact.

The goal: Empower researchers to submit strong, interdisciplinary proposals that align with JTS's themes. In this way we aim to foster interdisciplinary research in digital society, technology and AI.

What’s Covered?

The fund supports the hiring of a grant writer—either one recommended by JTS or one of your choosing (subject to approval). Up to €10,000 is available to cover this cost. Please note that project management and event hosting are not included in this fund but can be discussed separately with the JTS team. The JTS team is able to assist with tasks such as organising events related to the project (e.g. knowledge dissemination events) or project management tasks. The Jantina Tammes School (JTS) is pleased to serve as the embedding organization of the project.

We can assist in exploring opportunities to combine funding for interdisciplinary proposals from various sources, such as the faculty, the university, or external organisations (https://europapact.frl/financiele-ondersteuning/).

Who Can Apply?

  • Eligible Researchers: Tenure-track or tenured scientific staff of the University of Groningen, with a focus on early career researchers (PhD awarded in the last 10 years, with potential for extensions).

  • Interdisciplinary Research: Projects must involve multiple research disciplines (preferably from different faculties) and relate to JTS's themes: AI, digital society, and technology.

  • PI: The applicant must be the PI.

  • Eligible Grants: Applications are for Horizon Europe pillar 2, Marie Curie, NWO/NWA, ERC Synergy, and other collaborative grants (national and international).

  • Proposal Stage: Only full proposals or resubmissions are eligible—no pre-proposals.

Key Criteria

  • Interdisciplinary consortium funding in the theme of the Jantina Tammes school (AI, digital society & technology). The proposal needs to be explicit on how the nature of the research connects to (one or more) topics of the school.

  • Budget: Minimum research budget of €1,000,000.

  • Consortium: Proposals must outline a collaborative, interdisciplinary approach and involve multiple partners.

  • Proposal Maturity: The maturity of the proposal and partner set-up will influence the evaluation.

  • Approval: The JTS management must approve your chosen grant writer.

How to Apply

Submit a one-page summary of your research proposal, detailing the consortium partners and the interdisciplinary approach, by 31 January 2025. Applications will be judged on their level of maturity, alignment with JTS themes and collaborative potential (see the Key Criteria).

Send your application to jtschool rug.nl.

The applications will be evaluated by the scientific director,  a JTS theme coordinator and an advisory board member. Substitute or additional members may be appointed to address conflicts of interest or fill expertise gaps, ensuring flexibility and impartiality.

Post-Submission Requirements

If your proposal is successful, you must:

  • Acknowledge JTS in the resulting papers.

  • Submit the final proposal and feedback for archiving (unless there is reason not to).

  • Write a reflection on the process, sharing insights to guide future applicants.
