Open Day at the UB: 405th Anniversary!
This Friday, the UB will open its sliding doors for all those who don’t have a UG student card. Before you shrug this event off by saying that you are at the UB all day everyday, hear me out first. What makes this event special, is that you get the opportunity to look behind the scenes of the library and explore spaces that are usually hidden from the public eye - such as the archives for instance. There will also be a UB version of Where’s Waldo, a lost and found 2020 exhibition (which we all know was a great year) and best of all, free coffee in all coffee corners from 12 to 5pm.
Galant Gala 2020
If you’ve had enough of all those regular parties where everyone dresses up like a club kid, then this event might be for you! Instead of skinny jeans and t-shirts, this student gala event promises a high-class evening with a formal dress code. So take out your tux or ball gown and enjoy a truly fancy evening with your friends. The price for the event includes drinks and snacks, but also a photo booth with a photographer who will take some professional pictures of the night which you can show your parents and even grandparents when they ask you about your party life in Groningen.
Vietnamese Cooking Workshop | Pho soup
Pho, which is actually pronounced more like Fah, is probably one of the best culinary inventions ever created. Essentially, Pho is a Vietnamese noodle soup which features a bunch of fresh vegetables and meat. However, if you have ever tried googling a recipe, you will have noticed that it seems incredibly hard to make. As a student you are obviously not an aspiring chef, so if you want to master this dish (and trust me you will if you have ever had a good bowl of this good stuff), you might want to get some help at this viatnamese cooking workshop. Bonus tip: learn how to cook this and impress your girlfriend or parents during your next dinner date.
International Women's Day 2020
It’s Women's Day this Sunday, which means there are a lot of events going on Sunday and next week, that specifically focus on women's rights. For instance, you can join the women's march on Sunday from 13:30 to 17h or test your knowledge on women's rights later that evening during a pub quiz. In addition to this, there will also be a Symposium on Feminism in the 21st Century, organised by SIB on the 9th of March where several speakers will discuss contemporary feminism.
Lecture: Potential Risks of AI
Be it on your phone, in surveillance software or self driving cars - AI is certainly going to play a huge role in the upcoming years and will shape the world we live in. But just like every new and uncharted technology we are not fully aware yet of what risks AI might pose in the future. The potential risks and disadvantages will therefore be the focus of this event which is held in the context of the AI exhibition in the Groningen Forum.
