Welcome to Groningen

We extend a warm invitation to EuroSOTL 2025 participants to the enchanting city of Groningen. Nestled in the northern part of the Netherlands, Groningen beckons with its rich cultural heritage and forward-thinking spirit. It offers a variety of engaging social activities, including visiting the cultural center Forum, climbing the Martinitoren, participating in mudflat hiking to explore the unique coastal landscape, and enjoying a relaxing boat ride through the picturesque canals in a traditional sloop. These activities provide participants with a unique and memorable experience of the city's rich culture and natural beauty.

Conference venues

All venues are university buildings, within walking distance from each other, wheelchair accessible, and have an enclosed, private space where participants can retreat for a moment of silence, to pray, to breastfeed or to pump. The Academy Building will be used for the opening and closing ceremonies and keynote, and offers space for workshops. The House of Connections of the UG is the central meeting place in the field of social themes, where students, researchers, networks and citizens can come together to learn from and inspire each other.

Traveling to Groningen

Groningen is well-connected by the international railway to, for instance, Paris, Berlin, and London. The city can easily be reached in 2.15 hours by direct train from Amsterdam’s Schiphol Airport - the best-connected airport on the European continent and includes various flight operators and budget options. The regional Groningen Airport Eelde can be reached within 45 minutes by bus and offers flights to several European destinations (i.e., United Kingdom, Greece, Spain, Bulgaria, Turkey, Sweden).

Conference accomodation

There are various hotels and hostels, all conveniently situated near the central train station and the city center, and most importantly, within walking distance to our conference venues. From these accommodations, participants can choose to walk, bike, or use public or private transport to reach the conference venue.
