Summerschool Energy Challenge great success
The Wubbo Ockels School for Energy and Climate hosted the summer school 'Energy Challenge – an interdisciplinary approach' in House of Connections, from 27 August – 1 September 2023. The summer school turned out to be a great success, bringing together a diverse group of 15 master students, PhD students and professionals from 12 different countries and with a background in engineering, energy and climate law or energy policy.
The summer school started with participants playing the We Energy Game about energy transition. The game was a great introduction to the topic of the summer school and at the same time helped the participants to get to know each other, each other’s expertise and cultural background. In the afternoon, a visit to Gasunie followed, where Gasunie presented their challenge in the transition to a hydrogen economy. In the days that followed, the participants worked on this challenge in 4 different groups: ngo’s, producers, consumers and government.
Participants engaged in active discussions after lectures on engineering by Prof. Aravind Purushothaman Vellayani, economics by Prof. Machiel Mulder, energy law by Dr. Daisy Tempelman, (Hanze Applied University), environmental psychology by Prof. Goda Perlaviciute and spatial science by Prof. Christian Zuidema, and took the different perspectives into account in their presentations on Friday.
The summer school will have another edition in 2024.
