Universities in the face of the climate and nature crisis: Redoubling our commitment to a sustainable future
When: | Tu 01-04-2025 10:00 - 12:30 |
Where: | Online |

At a time when the EU is increasingly focused on its global competitiveness and its preparedness for future shocks, it is essential that these aims align with its commitment to societal welfare and environmental sustainability. This can only be achieved through embracing complexity and systems thinking. Universities are in a unique position to enable and strengthen this – through their research, their education, and their Third Mission.
This event marks the launch of The Guild’s Insight paper on ‘Universities in the face of the climate and nature crisis: Redoubling our commitment to a sustainable future’, which urges policymakers to strengthen universities’ capacities to address the climate and nature crises alongside other central societal and economic goals. And it discusses, through concrete examples from its members, how universities must redouble their efforts to inspire each other in addressing complex challenges in the climate and nature crises.
The event will consist of two interconnected debates about how universities can best foster a sustainable and just transition in Europe and beyond, and how policymakers can best nurture the capacity of universities to address the climate and nature crises.
