Three combined PhD defenses

Closing event 12 December 2023 3 – 6 PM

The North Sea region may be called the biggest Living Laboratory in Energy Transition in the world. Declining oil and gas production are combined with rapid buildup of large wind off-shore electricity generation, followed by green hydrogen and major new energy infrastructure developments. The North Sea is therefore at the heart of the energy transition of NW Europe.

In 2018, the European Commission declared a Marie Curie Training network proposal coordinated by the University of Groningen with 5 other universities (University of Stavanger, University of Flensburg, Chalmers University, University of Edinburgh, University of Aalborg) the winner. With 15 PhD positions covering all dimensions of the energy transition in the North Sea from engineering to market design.

Tuesday 12 December we celebrate three PhD defenses (all in one day!) of the strongly interlinked projects of:

  • Laura Gusatu; Spatial planning and impacts of the energy transition on the North Sea
  • Srinivasan Santhakumar, Technological learning of off-shore energy technologies
  • Rafael Martinez Gordon; energy system modelling and optimal development pathways for the North Sea region

You are welcome for the closing event and reception.

Registration

Please register before 8th of December.
