Clinical and Research in the UMCG

Clinical internships and research projects take place in the UMCG hospital.

Clinical internships

Options for clinical internships are scarce. Reason are the large amounts of degree students, who will have to do their clinical rotations in the UMCG. They are your competitors and we give priority to them. As a result of this, there will not be much places left for students from abroad.
Further, we give priority to students coming from partner universities.

If you are a student from one our partners, you must be selected by and anounced to us by the International office of your faculty. The application must contain your letter of motivation and your CV, together with information on your level of English, following the criteria elsewhere on this site. The application must be sent to: international.office@umcg.nl. Applications must be sent in at least 3 months before the startingdate.

Freemovers can send their application, containing a letter of motivation, CV and information on their level of English to international.office@umcg.nl.

When applying for a clinical internship in a department where you will meet patients, speaking and understanding Dutch is obligatory. You must add proof of this.

For clinical interships goes that you can only apply for one department or discipline.

Research

Applying for a research project gives you more chance on success. Research is only possible for a period of at least 5 or more months and you should add a motivation concerning the type of research, and a description of the subject that you are interested in. Please mail it to international.office@umcg.nl, at least 3 months before the startingdate.

No guarantee

Unfortunately, we cannot give you any guarantee that we will be able to arrange the clerkship. It all depends on the available capacity in the UMCG and for each individual request we will have to contact the department(s) of your preference. We do not offer a fixed program of clinical internships or research projects.
