prof. dr. S.M. (Stefan) Willems

Stefan Willems MD, PhD, MBA, was trained in medicine (2003 cum laude Catholic University Leuven) with a PhD in molecular pathology (2010, Leiden University) and specialized in pathology (2011, LUMC). After postdoc positions at Harvard Medical School (Gygilab) and NKI-AvL  (Bernardslab) he has been working as a pathologist with special interest in molecular pathology and diagnostics. As an associate professor he successfully established his research group focussing on molecular predictive and prognostic biomarkers in head and neck cancer. He was co-director of the molecular pathology lab in the UMC Utrecht. In 2020 he moved to Groningen to become professor of pathology and chair of the department of pathology and medical biology in the UMC Groningen.
