S.G. (Sarah Grace) See, PhD
I joined the Department of Economics, Econometrics, and Finance at the University of Groningen as an assistant professor in January 2019. Before coming to the Netherlands, I held a Marie SkÅ‚odowska-Curie Individual Fellowship from 2017 to 2019 in the UK with the project “Parental Employment and Child Investments” (PEACH) on flexible working arrangements and mental health. This was a brainchild from my postdoctoral fellowship in Turin, Italy for the FP7 Consortium Project Families And Societies, looking at the effects of family-friendly policies and early childcare on child outcomes. Prior to that, I held a postdoctoral position in Bologna, Italy for the project Mixed Marriages in Italy.
I am an alumnus fellow and representative for the field of economics at the College for Interdisciplinary Educational Research (CIDER), a collaboration funded by Leibniz Education Research Network and Jacobs Foundation, actively promoting academic research and public engagement works on education. In addition to the economics of education, I also study household and demographic economics, investigating topics related to parental labor, intrahousehold bargaining, and input investments. I have worked intensively on issues related to time as a scarce resource, using detailed time diary datasets. One of my recent research works explores the differential patterns in time use of children and adolescents, and how this translates to education, health, and behavior outcomes, by gender and birth order.
Prior to doing my PhD studies at the University of Bologna, I was involved in a number of projects in Manila, Philippines, some of which include a first-hand data-gathering project related to solid waste management and practices, a training program on ODA planning and management catered to Lao PDR government officers, and a financial literacy training program for school teachers in the Philippines. I also have a vast experience organizing academic events such as workshops and seminars, including the 14th CEPR Conference on Applied Industrial Organization and 10th JIE School on Applied Industrial Organization in Bologna, Italy, and Peace and Economic Development in the Age of Globalization in Manila with keynote speech by Prof. Finn Kydland.
