O.J. (Oliver) Moore, Prof

Since 2016 Oliver Moore has held the chair in Chinese Language and Culture at the Faculty of Arts, Groningen University. He studied Chinese at London University (SOAS) and Fudan University, Shanghai; he gained his PhD at Cambridge University with his thesis on the social/literary formation of the examination culture surrounding civil service recruitment in ninth-century China. His previous positions have included: Lecturer in Art and Material Culture, Leiden University (1998-2016); Curator of the China collections, Netherlands Museum of Ethnology/Museum Volkenkunde, now Wereldmuseum (2011-2016), Leiden; Visiting Professor, Institute of the Humanities, Kyoto University (2013); Curator, Asia Department, British Museum (1993-1998).
