dr. ir. M. (Martin) van Duin
Structure - reactivity - performance relationships are the main theme in the work of Martin van Duin. This theme connects his PhD study on “Borate esters: identification, structure, stability and cation coordinating ability” (Technical University Delft; 1987) with work done as Research Fellow at DSM Research (1986 – 2008) to his current position as Principle Scientist at ARLANXEO (the global leader for synthetic rubbers). By increasing the insight in these relationships, problems can be solved, processes/products can be improved and new ideas are generated for further exploration. Main areas of expertise are rubber crosslinking, polymer modification (incl. reactive extrusion), (reactive) blending (incl. thermoplastic vulcanisates) and rubber mixing and properties. Collaborations with universities and research institutes on more scientific and exploratory topics, incl. ~20 PhD studies both in the Netherlands but also abroad, have strengthened his role on the industry/academia interface. His scientific and technical ouput consists of ~160 scientific papers and ~10 industrial patents. He was recently appointed as a part-time professor on Rubber Products in the Chemical Engineering & Technology department at the RijksUniversiteit Groningen.
