Informed Citizenship For All

Over 4 million Dutch citizens are unable to participate in today's digital society. From evaluating news and information to communicating with the government: citizens require increasing levels of digital literacy. Especially people from lower socioeconomic backgrounds run the risk of being excluded. This project studies what individual, technological and social factors support or prohibit people’s development of digital literacy.

Consortium partners: Rijksuniversiteit Groningen, Koninklijke Bibliotheek, SKSG, Alfa College, Biblionet Groningen

Growing up with media: Digital literacy and media literacy in children

Media play an increasingly central role in the lives of growing children. Childcare providers, schools, and parents wonder what the consequences are and struggle with the question of how to deal with smartphones, social media, and gaming. This project investigates the individual, social, and technological factors that determine how children develop digital literacy and media literacy.
