dr. G.J. (Gaaitzen) de Vries
Gaaitzen de Vries is associate professor (with ius promovendi) of international trade and economic development at the Faculty of Economics and Business, University of Groningen. He is academic director of the master International Economics and Sustainable Development. His research activities are characterized by team work, involving a substantial group of (research) master and PhD students.
Gaaitzen is a theme leader of the STEG consortium and a fellow of the Groningen Growth and Development Centre. His research is on topics related to international trade, development economics, regional science, and international business. He (co-) authored articles that appeared in peer-reviewed international journals such as:
- the American Economic Review, the Journal of Economic Perspectives, the IMF Economic Review, and Economic Policy;
- the Journal of Development Economics, World Development, the World Bank Economic Review;
- the Journal of Economic Geography, the Journal of Regional Science;
- the Global Strategy Journal, the Journal of International Business Policy.
He is a regular consultant, invited expert, and advisor for companies and international organisations including the United Nations, the Asian Development Bank, the OECD, the Japanese Ministry of Economics, Trade and Industry, the Overseas Development Institute, the World Bank, the International Labor Organisation, Rabobank, and ING.
