prof. dr. E.J. (Erik) Knorth
After my graduation from Utrecht University (MSc in developmental psychology) and a brief period of teaching social research methodology at that university, I was appointed in 1979 as an assistant professor at the Department of Education, Leiden University. In 1987 I finished my PhD thesis on admission of young people into residential care. More than two decades of research and teaching in Leiden on children with serious emotional and behavioural disturbances, including a 12 years period of leading post-graduate courses, were followed by the appointment in 2004 as a full professor in Groningen.
Together with professor Menno Reijneveld (Health Sciences, University Medical Center Groningen) I lead the Collaborative Centre on Care for Children and Youth with behavioural and emotional problems: C4Youth. I serve as the editor-in-chief of the ‘International Journal of Child and Family Welfare’ and as the vice-president of the European Scientific Association on Residential and Family care for children and adolescents (EUSARF).
