drs. D.A. (Dicky) Tamminga

After graduating from the University of Groningen in 1987 as a sociologist (doctoraal in Family Relationships & Sociology of Education) and with a grade-one teaching qualification, I started working at the Hogeschool Haarlem (Haarlem University of Applied Sciences) as a lecturer in Sociology and Organizational Theory. While there, I also managed one of the study programmes for social workers and guided several students in writing their final thesis.
In 1992, I returned to the University of Groningen to work as a study advisor and study-career consultant at the Faculty of Economics and Business. Shortly afterwards, I followed a refresher course on career counselling
In 1998, I became a consultant at the Career Development and Training Department – Human Resource Management. The career development of young scientists and management courses for scientific staff were my specialties. I also took an extensive course on personal coaching.

From 2005 I have been working as head of the Career Development and Training Department within the University. The Department consists of recruitment, career counselling and training professionals and several support staff members. Career counselling, management development and academic leadership have always had my special interest.

From January 2010, I have taken a primary role in several management development activities and a strategic project on leadership development at the University of Groningen. Currently, my main activities include organizing and providing both leadership development in the academic world and professional training as well as management & career coaching of both academic staff and business leaders or executives. Since 2011 the University started a Talent Development Programme and in this programme I'm appointed as a strategic advisor. Together with the dean of Talent and a small team we support our academic staff in developing and funding their academic careers. In 2012 the U4 Network of 4 European universities including Groningen started a leadership programme for strategic management within universities. Together with collegues from Ghent, Gottingen and Uppsala I support and facilitate this programme.
