Barbara Brink graduated in Sociology from the University of Groningen, following which she undertook a MA in Euroculture at Groningen and the Univerisad de Deusto, Bilbao, Spain. She obtained her PhD in 2009 from the Department of Government at the University of Strathclyde, Glasgow, UK. After receiving her doctorate, Barbara worked as a lecturer of public administration at the Inholland University of Applied Sciences. After a position as a policy researcher at the local audit office of the municipality of Rotterdam, she joined the University of Groningen in 2011.

She holds a lectureship and coordinates and teaches within the master’s degree Law and Public Administration, existing of the Dutch taught track Juridische Bestuurskunde and the international track Governance and Law in Digital Society.

She is member of the Departmental board of Constitutional law, Administrative law and Public administration (responsible for education), member of the faculty's Research Ethics Review Committee (CETOR), member of faculty committee Wellbeing, Diversity, and Inclusion and member of the programme committee for Law and public administration.

Her research interests lie in the domain of policy making, in particular the impact of digitalisation on social security policy. From 2018-2022 she held a Postdoctoral Research position within the ‘Future of the universal welfare state’ research initiative, funded by Instituut GAK.
