A.K. (Ann) Tank, Dr

Ann Tank is a tenured Assistant Professor at the Department of Accounting and Auditing. Before joining the University of Groningen in 2022, she was an Assistant Professor at the University of Stuttgart (Germany) from 2016 till 2022 and she was Visiting Researcher at Caltech (CA, USA) 2018/19. Between 2011 and 2016, Ann was a doctoral student at the University of Stuttgart and received a doctoral degree in Management Accounting (Dr.rer.pol.) with summa cum laude. 

Ann’s research lies at the intersection of management accounting and control systems and cognitive neuroscience. She uses behavioral and neurobiological experiments (fMRI, eye-tracking) to study how individuals with diverse backgrounds and perspectives process accounting information, make decisions, and interact with management control systems in organizational settings. Her current work explores how incentive structures and performance measurement systems can be designed to be effective across diverse populations, with the broader goal of developing management control systems that are more inclusive and supportive of different ways of working and thinking.

Her research has been published in disciplinary and interdisciplinary outlets, including the European Accounting Review and the Journal of Neuroscience, Psychology, and Economics.
