Grief as a trans-situational process – Phenomenology, assessment, and intervention
Throughout life, people experience multiple losses (e.g., bereavement, break-up, relocation). Grief has mostly been studied after the death of a loved one. However, this project starts with the novel theoretical hypothesis that people may grieve in response to the loss of any person, group, status, or situation to which they are emotionally attached. We will clarify (1) the phenomenology of grief following different losses, and (2) whether comparable processes play a role in the emergence of grief. These insights will be used to (3) develop a trans-situational grief app that may help individuals cope with different loss experiences.
