Citizen Science with CurioUs?

Would you like to contribute to scientific research and learn more about your environment? Then you’ve come to the right place! CurioUs? aims to engage citizens of Northern Netherlands in citizen science projects through talks, borrowing measuring equipment, and participation in measurement activities.

The First Measurement Library in the Netherlands

Every Thursday evening between 18:00 and 21:00, you can visit Forum Groningen to borrow measuring instruments for free. These tools help you map out or even improve your living environment. Think of a telescope, fine dust meter, infrared camera, smart plug, or thermal camera. The measurement library is located in the Smartlab on the sixth floor of Forum Groningen, in the heart of the city. Please check the opening hours of Meet-O-Theek beforehand.

For example, you can measure air quality, track the presence of birds or animals in your garden, or borrow an energy cost meter or thermal camera to identify where you can save on energy at home. You can even borrow a UV sunscreen camera to check if you’re properly protected from the sun.

We’re always open to expanding our core collection. Do you have any great suggestions? Email them to meetotheek@curiousgroningen.nl!

Join the Measurement Activities

Where do most people in Northern Netherlands move around? How many worms live in the soil? What is the air quality in your area? How much rain falls in your garden? Take part in one of the measurement activities and work together with scientists to map your surroundings.

Want to learn more about your environment or health? Read about current and past measurement activities on the Forum Groningen website or sign up for the CurioUs? newsletter.
