Great result: Top Dutch Solar Racing team finished 4th during the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge
What a great result: the debuting Top Dutch Solar Racing team from Groningen finished fourth in the Challenger-class during the Bridgestone World Solar Challenge in Australia. This deserves a big compliment and congratulations to the team! Especially because the team designed and constructed the Green Lightning car themselves. Together with Eize Stamhuis (Ocean Ecosystems/ESRIG), the team did a lot of research on the aerodynamics versus design (see ESRIG newsitem on October 16th).
After setting the fastest lap during the dynamic scrutineering (1:51:99 with an average speed of 92.25km per hour), the Green Lightning broke the existing lap record and had the honor to lead the way from State Square, Darwin, on October 13th. During the race, the team had some challenges, harsh weather conditions, an electrical problem, overheated batteries, but they managed to drive over 30222 kilometers from Darwin to Adelaide and arrived as fourth!
The Energy and Sustainability Research Institute would like to congratulate the Top Dutch Solar Racing team. What a impressive result!
