About us Faculty of Science and Engineering Our Research GRIP Analytical Biochemistry

Research facilities

The Research Group Analytical Biochemistry has the following analytical methods at its disposal:

  • Capillary and microfluidics-based, nano High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) coupled on-line to electrospray ionization quadrupole ion trap, quadrupole time-of-flight and triple quadrupole mass spectrometers.
  • High Performance Liquid Chromatography (HPLC) with ultraviolet (DAD) and fluorescence detection.
  • General protein purification and biochemistry equipment.
  • Absorbance and fluorescence plate reader.

The group has close links and access to equipment in the Faculty Mass Spectrometry Centre located in the same building (MALDI-TOF, triple-quadrupole, quadrupole time-of-flight instruments) and the research group of Prof. Poolman, University of Groningen (LTQ-Orbitrap). Since 2012, the mass spectrometry activities of Analytical Biochemistry are integrated with the Faculty Mass Spectrometry Centre and the UMCG proteomics facility in the new Interfacultary Mass Spectrometry Center (https://mscenter.webhosting.rug.nl/tiki-index.php).

The group has access to and uses cell culturing, microscopy, FACS and other facilities within the UMCG.
