Research of the section largely takes place within the research programme 'Regulatory Interaction and Multi-level Governances'. Although expertise within the department covers almost the full breadth of European law, there is specific expertise in the area of ​​the internal market, competition law, legal protection, human rights, environmental law, citizenship, comparative law, legal economics and EU external relations. The department participates in a number of national and European projects.
