In the second half of the academic year (blocks 3 and 4),  students must complete a thesis project within our Governance and Law in Digital Society LLM  programme. The project consists of an internship of at least seven weeks and 140 hours, and a master’s thesis. Applying the knowledge they've accumulated from their courses, the internship is intended to provide students practical experience within the professional domain of the LLM programme. Further, students can write about the new knowledge acquired from their internship in their thesis.

Here is a list of different entities and organizations where students will be pursuing their internships during the 2020-2021 academic year*:

As this Master’s programme is specifically designed to meet the demand for professionals in the field of law and public administration, it's not surprising that internship opportunities exist with goverment agencies and companies dealing with issues of cybercrime and data administration (like those listed). If you would like to learn about other companies and organizations where previous students have done their internships, please read here

If you want to know more about the GLDS programme, we welcome you to join our upcoming Online Masters Week presentation for the programme, where lectureres from the programme provide more insight into the LLM, and answer any questions you may have. You can also contact the Faculty of Law for more information through our information request form. There will also be an online webinar for the GLDS programme on February 18th.

PLEASE NOTE:
As the programme is a hybrid of both law and the social sciences, applicants must have an LLB or equivalent with a minor in Social Sciences or a BSc in Social Sciences with a minor in Law. If you do not have a minor in one of the required fields, you can apply to the Pre-LLM programme for this programme. Also, please be advised this programme is taught at our Campus Fryslan in Leeuwarden (not Groningen).

*Some internship placements are still tentative (planned) for current students and thus have not been completed yet. Please note that language requirements may differ between internship opportunities for certain organizations within different countries.
