Governance and Law in Digital Society

During the second half of the academic year (blocks 3 and 4) of our Governance and Law in Digital Society LLM  programme, students must complete a thesis project that consists of an internship of at least seven weeks and 140 hours, and a master’s thesis. The internship is intended to offer students practical experience within the professionsl domain of the programme, and give them the chance to apply the knowledge they've accumulated from their courses.

With regards to where students pursue internships, here is a list of different entities and organizations where previous students completed their internships*:

As you can see, this is wide variety of organizations, yet the common link between them is that all use digital admistration practices, which require staff who are knoweldgable about digital privacy, safety, and security. This Master’s programme is specifically designed to meet the increasing demand for such persons in the field of law and public administration.

If you want to know more about the GLDS programme, we welcome you to join our upcoming Online Masters Week presentation for the programme, where lectureres from the programme provide more insight into the LLM, and answer any questions you may have. You can also contact the Faculty of Law for more information through our information request form.

PLEASE NOTE:
As the programme is a hybrid of both law and the social sciences, applicants must have an LLB or equivalent with a minor in Social Sciences or a BSc in Social Sciences with a minor in Law. If you do not have a minor in one of the required fields, you can apply to the Pre-LLM programme for this programme. Also, please be advised this programme is taught at our Campus Fryslan in Leeuwarden (not Groningen).

*Language requirements may differ between internship opportunities within the Netherlands; proficiency in Dutch may be required for certain organizations.
